PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan announced Tuesday that he will leave the tour and Tiger Woods seems excited about the future.
Monahan is leaving the Tour next year, with NFL top executive Brian Rolapp announced as CEO of the PGA Tour.
“I am honored to play the role of CEO of the PGA Tour. Golf is one of the deepest history and many of the most timeless traditions in all sports,” Rolapp said in an open letter posted on social media. “History and these traditions have inspired generations of players and fans to create a game and a tour, which is a love of millions of love around the world. At the same time, professional golf is growing, and the way fans consume sports continue to evolve. My goal as CEO is to honor the tradition of golf, but not overly bound by them.”

Woods posted on X, thanking Monahan for serving this tour and congratulating the new CEO.
“Congratulations to Brian for becoming CEO of the PGA Tour. I'm excited about where the tour is heading. Thank you so much for everything Jay has done for us for our game and for the players and fans.”
Monaghan himself added: “Brian is ideal for the next chapter of the PGA Tour.
“His arrival strengthens our leadership team and reflects our shared commitment to the ongoing development of the tour. Brian’s expertise and vision, as well as the trust we build with players and fans, I’m more confident in the future than ever.”

Monahan will shift his daily responsibilities to Rolapp and focus more on his position on the PGA Tour and the commercial PGA Tourprises board until 2026.
Over the past few years, this tour has made meaningful progress in addressing these changes – from creating more opportunities to improving the competitive structure and enhancing the experience for fans. However, there is still important work to be done and incredible opportunities are still future. From creating the highest quality golf products including the best players in the world, including the best business partnerships, both on my board members, board members and fans, I express this range.

Monahan announced the announcement in an ongoing negotiations with the Public Investment Fund and LIV Golf, which was unearthed two years ago. As Monahan continues to be criticized, no agreement has yet been fulfilled.
