LAPD officers shooting in stable condition near Expo Park

A Los Angeles Police Department official was shot dead in the Expo Park area Saturday afternoon and taken to a nearby hospital.
LAPD chief Jim McDonnell said Saturday night at the California Hospital Medical Center that the officer was in a “severe” but stable condition and was hurt by “non-life threat.”
According to LAPD, the shooting occurred around 3:45 p.m., by No. 39 near Martin Luther King Jr. Park and Western Avenue.
McDonald said two officers assigned to “gang law enforcement details” were involved in the incident, but only one was injured.
“They observed the suspect trying to stop and question. The suspect ran away.” “The distance was short. During that time, the suspect turned around and shot at our officers. One of our officers was attacked. Another officer caught fire again, another unit responded and assisted in the arrest of the suspect.”
McDonald said no shooting attacked the suspect who is now in custody.
“I believe we are lucky… The officer did not threaten his life [injuries] at this point. He is in a serious but stable condition,” McDonald said.
