Lee Elia, a longtime baseball lifeguard, probably best known for her epic roar in 1983, died this week at the age of 87.
Elia played 95 major league games and played 538 games with the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Phillies. But after one of those games, Elia is perhaps one of the most legendary carnivals of all time.
On April 29, 1983, Elia was the captain of the Cubs, who lost 4-3 to the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-14. When the Cubs headed to the clubhouse, the 9,391 crowd at Wrigley Field threw garbage at Keith Moreland and Larry Bowa.

Elia was full of reactions to Cubs fans, including at least 40 F-bombs.
“f – Those F – who came out here — Ing fans say they should tear everything behind you,” Elia began. “I'll tell you one thing I want us to become more than s — stuffed with 3,000 f — stuffed with people every day because they are real Chicago f — fans, they can kiss my f —- they can kiss my f ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————– ”
That was just the beginning of two-thirds of the novel captured by the clubhouse's lonely microphone that day.
As part of his remarks, he declared that 85% of the world are at work, and “another 15% are here.” At that time, there was no light on the Wrigley Stadium and the Cubs only played one game at home.
