Macron said after being killed in mosque, Macron said there is no place for racism, hate in France
President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday that France will never have a place of racism and hatred after a mosque in the south of the country was killed by a brutal stabbing by Muslims.
“Religious-based racism and hatred cannot be violated in France,” Macron wrote in his first comment on Friday's killings.
The attacker was running away, stabbing the worshiper dozens of times before filming him with his cell phone while shouting insults in the attack on Friday in the village of La Grand-Combe in the Gad area.
French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou has condemned what he described as “Islamic terror atrocities.”
The so-called perpetrator sent another person a video he shot with his cell phone – wriggling to the victim and then shared it on social media platforms before deleting it.
Sources close to the case requested not to name it, saying that although the suspected offenders were not arrested, they have been identified as French citizens of Bosnian descent and they are not Muslims.
The victim, a Marian man in his 20s, was alone in the mosque when the incident occurred.
After initial prayer with the man, the attacker then stabbed the victim 50 times before fleeing the scene.
The victim's body was found only later in the morning when other believers arrived at the mosque for praying on Friday.
Protests against “attacking Islamophobia” will be held in Paris on Sunday night.
The French Muslim Faith Council (CFCM) said the “anti-Muslim terrorist attack” was “shocked” and urged the French Muslims to be “very alert”.
The Council of Representatives of the French Jewish Institutions added: “Murdering worshippers in mosques is a mean crime and must be against the hearts of all French people.”
According to District Attorney Abdelkrim Grini, the attacker was only appointed Olivier, who was born in France in 2004 with no criminal record, which is a “potential danger” and arresting him before he claimed more victims.
