Monaco hosted a two-day Blue Economy and Finance Forum (BEFF), which preludes the week-long United Nations Ocean Conference in nearby Nice, which began on Monday (9 June).
Beff attempts to outline the financial advantages of protecting the ocean.
Macron spoke to audiences including Brazil's Luiz Inacio lula da Silva, Costa Rica's President Rodrigo Chaves and Prince William William of England.
He highlighted efforts to promote sustainable fishing, decarbonized maritime transport and green tourism.
This week's United Nations meeting is intended to enable more countries to ratify a treaty on the protection of marine biodiversity, which currently lacks enough signatories to enter into force.
