A Maine bill will authorize hotels to abandon small bottles containing “disposable plastic containers” in “places of accommodation” – banning single hotel shampoos and other toiletries.
The bill is being advanced in the legislature of Pine Tree State to reduce waste.
The summary of Bill LD 1928 reads: “The bill prohibits accommodation agencies from providing personal health or beauty products to persons who are living in accommodation agencies or those shared by the public and guests of accommodation agencies.”

Hotels, motels, resorts, bed and breakfasts, hotels, time-sharing properties, short-term rentals and vacation rentals are listed as accommodations.
Starting from January 1, 2030, accommodation with more than 50 rooms will not be able to provide toilet bottles under 6 ounces.
