Germany's scholz meets Ivory on farewell

According to official information, outgoing German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit Poland on Wednesday to hold a farewell meeting with Prime Minister Donald Tusk, focusing on German-Polish relations and European and international issues.

The announcement of Scholz's visit last week was unexpected.

Solz has been in the caretaker since the first session of the new House of Commons in the German Parliament. Foreign travel is not common at the final stage of the Prime Minister's term unless it is involved in international conferences.

Poland is currently participating in the campaign, and the presidential election is scheduled to be held on May 18.

Scholz is expected to transfer his responsibilities to conservative leader Friedrich Merz on May 6.

Meers had previously said before the German election that he planned to visit Poland and France on his first day as prime minister.

Meers aims to establish a new foundation for German relations through a friendship treaty, which he envisions on the 35th anniversary of the bilateral treaty on 17 June 2026 on 1991 bilateral neighbours.
