Manchester United is narrowing its check-in window for U.S. flights. This is how to compare with other airlines

NEW YORK (AP) – A casual person is careful: American travelers flying with United Airlines will have to check in domestic flights earlier next week. That is, if they only carry bags with them.

Starting from June 3, the “check-in deadline” for most flights in the United States will be 45 minutes before departure. United Nations passengers check their luggage at the airport for the same period of time, but 15 minutes ahead of those who currently do not have it.

A joint spokesperson said in an email to the Associated Press that the change to a single cutoff minimum “brings greater consistency for our customers” and is in line with the policies of many other airlines.

The check-in flight confirms the passenger’s reservation and intends to travel before departure. Most major U.S. operators have online boarding systems that can be used at least 24 hours in advance, so the process no longer reflects many passengers arriving at the airport. But this is still an important step because once the boarding is over, a boarding pass will be issued.

Other operators of the U.S. and international airlines have also tightened their check-in and boarding policies as part of their strategy to maintain a timely departure, especially in high demand following the Covid-19-19 pandemic.

Generally, check-in allows airports and airlines to prepare for upcoming flights – from confirming seat tasks to ensuring passenger names are at security checkpoints. Check-in deadline or the latest time when a flight booking may be required, usually an international flight earlier, to explain the time it takes to check the passport and clear the customs.

Still, airlines and airport requirements may vary. For example, Emirates, located in Dubai, closes online check-in 90 minutes before departure. Ryanair in Ireland allows online check-in two hours before the flight; passengers can still check in at the airport 40 minutes in advance, but there is a fee.

For Manchester United and some other U.S. operators, this is what the check-in deadline looks like.

United Airlines

Similarly, if you are flying within the United States, you will need to board the plane at least 45 minutes before departure on June 3.

While the new deadline applies to most of Manchester United’s domestic travel, check-in periods may vary by location and route. The airline's website notes that check-in time for St. Thomas Airport in the Virgin Islands is limited to 90 minutes before departure – flights between Guam and Honolulu have the same deadline.

For international flights, Manchester United needs to check at least one hour before departure. But many airports have earlier deadlines, such as the main airports in Paris and Dubai, and the 90-minute airports in Toronto and Lagos, Nigeria.

Delta gas line

Passengers in the Delta do not check any luggage and have at least half an hour check-in before domestic flights.

In a statement sent to the Associated Press on Tuesday, Delta said it made “small changes” so that “the Delta team can ensure that all customers have extensive experience.”

For international flights, delta travelers must be checked within at least 1 hour before departure. However, like other aircraft carriers, the minimum check-in requirements for Delta may vary depending on the location of some airports. For example, Delta customers checking bags at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York should check whether their flights are domestic or international within an hour before departure.

American Airlines

According to the operator's website, if you are flying with American Airlines in the United States, check and check the deadline for the bag 45 minutes before the flight.

For travel to and from locations outside the United States, both check in to and from your flight deadline and check the bag 60 minutes before departure. But again, a few airports have earlier requirements.

Southwest Airlines

Passengers exceeding the bag with you should arrive at the airline counter at least 45 minutes before the flight scheduled for Southwest flight. The carrier warned that the luggage destined for the aircraft cargo was considered a “delayed check” and that it could not be guaranteed to fly less than 45 minutes before departure.

In addition to luggage, if Southwest travelers are not checked in and are in the boarding area at least 10 minutes before departure, their reservation will be cancelled, a Southwest spokesperson told the Associated Press via email.

The airline has not specified any additional solid check-in deadlines for domestic flights. For international travel, Southwest's website states that all passengers and their luggage must be checked within 60 minutes before departure. Again, this may vary – for example, with flights leaving Aruba, the earlier deadline is 75 minutes before passengers with or without checked baggage take off.

Alaska Airlines

It takes at least 50 minutes before departure for Alaska to check passengers’ flights within the United States, regardless of whether they have luggage to check. The airline's website states that the deadline for international flights is 60 minutes.

Similarly, there are exceptions for some locations and airports. For example, passengers traveling from Guadalajara, Mexico must check their luggage at least 90 minutes in advance and enter their flight.
