Marseille Airport runway is closed, flights are suspended in wildfires in France – Country
Flights scheduled for Marseille Airport were suspended due to wildfires approaching wildfires in the southern French port city, local authorities said Tuesday.
The county urges people in affected areas to stay indoors and away from the road. As the fire approaches Marseille, the county also advises residents of the northern part of the city to stay inside, with doors and windows closed to prevent toxic smoke from entering the home.
Live TV footage shows a faint smoke that makes the sky at the old port of Marseille dusty.
About 168 firefighters, two helicopters and 68 engines were deployed to resolve the fire, which broke out near the town of Les Pennes-Mirabeau, hitting 350 hectares (865 acres).
No casualties were reported.

Marseille Airport announced that the runway was closed around noon.
The combination of heat waves and strong winds in the past few weeks has increased the risk of wildfires in southern France, with several outbreaks over the past few days.
