Samsung Health and HealthTap launch virtual primary care partnership

HealthTap and Samsung Health announced a partnership Tuesday that will make it easier for people to get virtual primary care through the Samsung Health app.
Samsung Health is a health and fitness app from electronic device company Samsung. It tracks various elements of health, including sleep, exercise and nutrition. It has 7 million active users of Android devices in the United States. Through the new partnership, HealthTap’s virtual primary and urgent care support will be embedded into the app. Users will be able to complete intake surveys and schedule virtual visits with HealthTap doctors.
After the visit, they will be able to review the clinician's notes and view follow-up instructions directly on the Samsung Health app. Users can choose to pay through insurance or pay $79 per visit, which is lower than HealthTap's usual $129.
The partnership is HealthTap’s first in-app experience on a third-party consumer platform.
“This partnership marks an important step toward primary care becoming a central hub for people's digital health experience,” Sean Mehra, CEO and co-founder of HealthTap, said in an email. “By embedding HealthTap into Samsung Health, consumers can now connect daily health data, such as sleep, activity and vital signs, with medical care. It transforms care from a one-time event into an ongoing relationship, enabling proactive and preventive engagement.”
Samsung responded to those comments.
“We believe that easy access to care is fundamental, whether it's a doctor's appointment or drug price transparency. Consumers are asking us for actionable information at the right time to support their health journey,” said Dr. Ricky Choi, U.S. head of digital health at Samsung Electronics America, in a statement. “By integrating telehealth services into the Samsung Health experience, we make care actionable, allowing users to move from health to clinical care and back again in a trusted environment.”
Mehra added that this is just the “beginning” of Samsung Health's partnership with HealthTap.
“As Samsung Health continues to expand its ecosystem of devices and partners, HealthTap will be a physician’s companion, helping to interpret data, close the loop of care, and guide people toward healthier lives,” he said. “Our shared vision is to make trusted primary care easily accessible to everyone—affordable, ongoing, and relevant to their daily health.”
This announcement comes shortly after HealthTap launched another collaboration with Lilly's digital health platform, LillyDirect. Through this partnership, patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes can connect virtually with HealthTap primary care clinicians through the LillyDirect platform.
There are several other companies offering virtual primary care, including Teladoc, MD Live and Carbon Health.
