Old photos of abandoned workplace misrepresented S. South Korea's presidential office heading to

After South Korea's newly elected president Lee Jae-Myung put his impeacher's ex Yoon Suk Yeol in a cationic workspace in the grave, he shared an old photo in a fake post claiming that the photo showed the office. This photo and similar images were circulated in February 2009 in a post and news article about electronics companies moving out of Seoul during a labor dispute.

A part of the Korean Language X post was shared on June 4, 2025.

It has screenshots with another post that share a panoramic image of an empty office space.

The position is in South Korea's newly elected president Lee Jae-Myung said the presidential office in Seoul's Yangsan District “feels like a tomb” (archived here and here).

“There is nobody here. There is no people even providing writing tools. There is no computer. There is no printer. It is absolutely ridiculous.”

The next day, Lee's Democrats accused his impeacher, Yoon Suk Yeol, of undermining the transition of power, describing the compound as a “crime scene” that has been “cleared to destroy evidence” (a link to archive).

Yoon was found guilty of an uprising for his armed announcement of martial arts, which left him with impeachment attitude, and if convicted, he was charged with impeachment and faced death penalty or life imprisonment.

Similar posts on Korean online forums PPOMPPU, MIMINT, WASSADA and GASENGI.com also shared the same images.

“They aren't even humans,” one of the posts commented, while another post said, “Really, really mean. They should all be sued.”

However, neither Lee's office nor Democrats released any official photos at the Yangshan presidential office before the government moved in.

In addition, photos in circulation have been online since 2009.

“Office Relocation”

Reverse image search on Google traces the image back to a post on February 27, 2009 on the Korean Forum (Archive Link).

The post said the photos showed the office of Seoul-based Jaty Electronics and claimed the company suddenly moved to Incheon in a labor dispute with its employees.

The securities regulator filed with the South Korean Financial Regulatory Services company that the company did move from its offices in the Gwanak-Gu district in Seoul to the Namdong-Gu district in Incheon in the first quarter of 2009 (archived here).
