Spokane, Washington, was declared a state of emergency after protesters failed to work with Mayor Lisa Brown
Brown issued a curfew during ice protests from Boone Ave to Spokane Falls Blvd and Howard St to Division ST and ice protests at Riverfront Park.
After the protests began, former Spokane Councilman Ben Stuckart issued a call for support for the detention of a Venezuelan man seeking asylum.
“Action Alert: Three weeks ago, I became the legal guardian of a young man seeking asylum from Venezuela. He has handed in all paperwork and conducted a future court hearing. I went to the ice check with him today. They detained him and transported him to Tacoma,” his post read. “I asked if you care completely about these illegal detainees, you would meet me at 411 West Cataldo. I’m going to sit in front of the bus.

“The turmoil we see in Spokane City is unacceptable,” Commissioner Kerns said. “I stand with dedicated law enforcement men and women who are hurt in ways that protect their lives, businesses and public safety.” He continued: “Thanks tonight to our police, representatives and their families. We support you and come back.”
