Russian general was killed in a car bomb explosion when Trump envoy met with Putin

The country's top criminal investigation agency said a car bomb killed a Russian general on Friday, the second killing of Russian officials in four months.

The Russian investigation committee said Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, a senior Russian official in the main operational department of the Russian armed forces, was killed by an explosive device in Balashikha outside Moscow.

Military spokesman Svetlana Petrenko said the explosion device was loaded with shrapnel and investigators had arrived at the scene.

Russian media played a video of a car burning in the yard of an apartment building.

According to the Associated Press, the committee did not mention the possible suspect.

The screen seat on the videotape shows Lieutenant General Yaroslav Moskalik, a senior Russian military officer, was killed in a car bomb explosion confirmed by the Russian Commission of Inquiry on April 25.

Kirillov is the head of the Russian Radiation, Biological and Chemical Protection Force, which is accused of protecting the army from nuclear, chemical or biological attacks.

Friday's bombing was about a peaceful negotiation with U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff planned to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, involving a deal to establish a ceasefire with Ukraine. The meeting will be for the fourth time in less than two months.

Earlier this week, President Trump accused Volodymyr Zelenskyy of postponing the possibility of a ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, believing that he agreed to formally hand over Crimea to Russia if the Ukrainian president agreed as part of a proposed peace agreement.

His comments were posted after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, after the senior talks held in London between European and Ukrainian officials.

Zelenskyy closed the concept of Ukraine on Tuesday as part of any agreement.

“There's nothing to talk about – this is our land, the land of the Ukrainian people,” Zelenskyy said, telling the media on Wednesday: “Stop the killing is mission number one.”
