Senate Budget Bill Doubles House Threat to Health and Economic Security

Senate Republicans released a key settlement bill Monday outlining plans to cut Medicaid, Medicare, Affordable Care Act (ACA) and Supplementary Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to pay for tax breaks that would benefit high-income earners disproportionately. While advocates hope the Senate may reject or hear a House bill, it doubles harmful policies – seeking deeper reductions and causing greater losses.

Millions will lose health coverage, food aid and economic security

Like the House bill, the Senate proposal would deprive millions of Americans of health coverage and access food, including older and disabled people, caregivers, children and working families. The consequences of these extreme cuts will reverberate across the country and throughout the healthcare system, resulting in more preventable deaths, more hospital closures, more dangerous nursing homes, and higher health care costs for everyone.

Senate plans farther than houses

But the Senate bill will develop further. Their Medicaid cuts the solar eclipse on the home, which has represented the largest rollback in the program's history. This will push higher costs to states, providers, communities, taxpayers, and ultimately lose the services needed to enjoy the services needed with health, dignity and independence.

Plans to help people with Medicare get attacked

These cruel and short-sighted proposals benefit financially from higher incomes by ending the cruel and short-sighted advice of food aid and health coverage. This includes Medicare admissions staff who also have Medicaid, and with it is access to Medicare savings program as well as a low-income subsidy for Part D – programs that help them pay for coverage, care and other essentials. Both bills will take the aid from millions of people, putting their lives and well-being at risk. Meanwhile, bills will impose punitive Medicaid rules that limit ACA affordability, limit Medicare eligibility and gut, resulting in more than 16 million people becoming uninsured, while more people are more experiencing food insecurity, economic instability and reduced opportunities for care. These harms will have unstable effects throughout the economy, undermining system-wide stability and affordability.

Clock ticking: Final vote may be held by July 4

Despite the disastrous, the fiasco of their bill, Senate Republicans plan to vote on it next week. Since both rooms have to pass a same bill to become law, the House will vote again. This could happen soon, as Republicans are watching the deadline for the final adoption on July 4.
