Senior commander from Iran's elite Quds unit was killed
Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday that the Israeli military killed a senior commander of the Iranian elite Quds force in a strike against the city of QOM.
Katz said the attack was aimed at Saeed Izadi.
It is said that Izadi provided funding to the Palestinian militant group Hamas in the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel and triggered ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
The Israeli Defense Minister described the attack as “a huge success of the Israeli Secret Service and the Air Force.”
He said the attack hit the apartment in Izadi, a QOM center, warning: “The long arms of Israel will touch all enemies.”
Iranian media reported earlier Saturday that at least two people were killed and two others were injured in Israeli air strikes in Qom, south of Tehran.
The city is about 50 kilometers north of the Fudo uranium enrichment facility and is considered one of Israel's most critical targets in the ongoing conflict.
The Quds forces supported political groups close to Iran abroad – such as Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hussy in Yemen – and conducted covert operations on behalf of the Revolutionary Guards.
