Shein, Temu raises prices under Trump's tariff crackdown

As President Trump cracks down on low-value imports and full-scale tariffs, Chinese online marketplace Temu and fast-fashion retailer Shein will raise prices for their products next week, increasing fees for companies known for their low-priced products.

In a letter to customers this week, the two companies said they will increase prices starting April 25 and encourage shoppers to “buy now at today's prices.”

“Our operating expenses have increased due to the latest changes in global trade rules and tariffs. In order to continue to provide products you like without damaging quality, we will make price adjustments starting April 25, 2025,” their report said.

Both Shein and Temu sell products from toys to smartphones, growing rapidly in the U.S. in part because the “De Minimis” exemption allows them to keep prices low.

But their business model is under pressure from a recent executive order signed by U.S. President Donald Trump, which shut down trade loopholes that have allowed packages worth less than $800 in China and Hong Kong to enter the U.S. for free. This sequence will take effect on May 2.
