Shooting in an upscale Santa Monica shopping center injured officer. Police search for gunman

Police are looking for a gunman who opened fire at the upscale Santa Monica shopping mall on Wednesday afternoon and stayed throughout the place.

An officer was injured in shooting at Santa Monica Plaza at the bottom of the Third Street promenade. The Santa Monica Police Department said in a statement about X that he was taken to a local hospital.

Videos from the area show that police presence has grown larger as gunmen searched, causing local businesses to lock in.

Officials advised the public to avoid areas near Fourth Street and Colorado Avenue.

Police said in a later statement that Santa Monica Plaza had been cleared.

Los Angeles Metro announces that the train station in downtown Santa Monica is closed and buses will be available soon.
