The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to challenge Republican-led financial restrictions on the U.S. campaign, which limits the amount parties can spend on behalf of certain candidates, a case that could have a significant impact on the 2026 midterm elections.

The case is a National Republican Senate v. Federal Election Commission v. Federal Election Commission, which was initially appealed to the court by the National Republican Senate Senate (NRSC), the National Republican Congress Committee (NRCC), and is running for the 2022 election on behalf of two Senate Republican candidates, including incumbent President JD Vance.

It focuses on whether federal restrictions on party campaign spending violate First Amendment protections in the U.S. Constitution, including freedom of speech.
