Surescripts partners with GoodRx to launch prescription price transparency tool

Health intelligence network Surescripts on Tuesday launched a new product called Script Corner aimed at increasing drug price transparency. The new product is a partnership with drug savings platform GoodRx, the companies announced Tuesday at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference in San Francisco.
Script Corner is available on mobile and the web. When a prescriber from a participating health system sends an electronic prescription, the patient will receive a text message with a link to view the prescription details. They will be able to view prescription costs at the pharmacy, including copay prices, GoodRx cash discount prices and other savings programs. This will enable them to choose the most affordable option.
Frank Harvey, CEO of Surescripts, said in a statement: “We believe the future of healthcare is personalized, connected and truly patient-driven. … Our new Script Corner product is a bold step toward that future, providing patients with price transparency and the freedom to choose the pharmacy and savings options that work best for them, including access to discounted cash prices through our partnership with GoodRx.”
According to the announcement, pharmacies do not need to register to have their prices included in the Script Corner as all pharmacies are added automatically. Not only does the product provide patients with greater clarity on pricing, it also helps health systems provide patients with more choices, pharmaceutical companies to reach more patients through their affordability programs, and reduces pharmacy over-the-counter “friction,” according to the announcement.
Script Corner will launch for patients in select health systems in Illinois and Texas in late January, with wider rollout planned for 2026. Surescripts plans to add new features in the future, such as medication management, patient support program enrollment and personalized compliance texts.
The new product comes at a time when patients face a prescription affordability crisis. According to KFF, about one in five adults said they did not get their prescriptions filled because of cost. About one in seven adults said they had halved their pills or skipped doses because of cost.
That's what Surescripts and GoodRx aim to change with Script Corner.
“Partnering with Surescripts allows us to reach patients at a critical moment – after a prescription is filled and when they are trying to understand the cost of their prescription,” GoodRx President and CEO Wendy Barnes said in a statement. “By eliminating unexpected costs earlier than ever before, we are helping more patients start and stay on treatment and ensuring plans are affordable for the patients they are intended to serve.”
