Rubio said at a cabinet meeting on April 30 that a little-known, now-laid office within the State Department called the Global Engagement Center (GEC), has written a nationwide archive of false information for Americans as part of an effort to “censor free speech,” including individuals who have since joined the Trump administration.
“We have an office at the State Department and his job is to do a censorship of Americans,” Rubio said at the meeting. “And, by the way, I won't say who it is. I'll leave it to them. We're going to hand these people over to these people.”

“In the case of the last administration, the office spent more than $50 million a year on taxpayers, spending millions of dollars actively silence and scrutinizing the voices of Americans they were supposed to serve,” he wrote. “This is contrary to the principle we should stick to, and the principle that happens in the United States is unimaginable.
