The father of nine children strikes in Gaza, where intensive care is underway during Israel strike
The fathers of nine children who died in an Israeli military strike in Gaza over the weekend are still in intensive care, doctors who were treated at the hospital on Sunday said.
When the Israeli air strikes, he himself was a doctor, Hamdi al-Najjar, who, along with his 10 children, killed all of them at the home of Khan Younis. He was taken to Nasser Hospital near southern Gaza and was treated for injuries.
Abdul Aziz al-Farra, a thoracic surgeon, said Najjar had two surgeries to stop bleeding in the abdomen and chest and suffered other wounds, including the head.
“May God heal him and help him,” Farah said beside a cannulated and tight Najjar's bed.
The Israeli military confirmed it had air strikes on Khan Yunis on Friday, but said it was a suspect in a structure close to Israeli soldiers.
The military is investigating that “uninvolved civilians” were killed, adding that the military had evacuated civilians from the area before the operation began.
According to medical officials in Gaza, nine children are between 1 and 12 years old. The surviving child is in serious condition but stable condition, the hospital said.
Najjar's wife Alaa is also a doctor and is not at home during the strike. She is injuring Israelily in the same hospital where Hamas’ husband and son were cared for during the nearly 20-month war in Gaza.
“She went to her home and saw her child burned down, may God help her,” said her sister Tahani Yahya al-Najjar.
Tahani said she visited her brother at the hospital on Sunday and whispered to him that she was there: “You're OK, this will pass.”
“We started to pull out the burnt body”
On Saturday, Ali al-Najjar said he rushed to his brother's house after the strike, which triggered a fire that threatened to collapse the house and searched the rubble.
“We started pulling out the burnt body,” he said.
In a statement on the air strike, the Israeli military said Khan Yunis was a “dangerous war zone.”
Almost all more than 2 million Palestinians in Gaza were displaced nearly 20 months after the war.
The war broke out after Hamas militants attacked Israel in October 2023, killing about 1,200, most of them civilians, and kidnapped 251 more people.
Gaza health officials said Israeli leaders said the campaign aimed at evacuating Hamas and freeing hostages, killing more than 53,000 Palestinians.
The Gaza Ministry of Health said most of them were civilians, including 16,500 children under the age of 18.
