After years of enthusiastic appeals, the Academy of Film decided to award it the official award.
The Film Academy said Thursday it will begin with the 100th Academy Awards in 2028, which will receive the achievement of the Stunt Design Award, which will recognize the films released in 2027.
“Stat design has been an integral part of film production since the early days of the cinema,” said Bill Kramer, the college's chief executive and college president Janet Yang in a joint statement.
“We are proud to honor these innovative works by technical and creative artists and we congratulate them on their dedication and dedication to reach this important moment.”
The Film Academy’s production and technology department has over 100 stunt performers in its ranks.

“Stats are essential to every genre of film and are rooted in the depths of our industry's history – from the groundbreaking work of early pioneers such as Buster Keaton, Harold Lloyd and Charlie Chaplin to the inspiring art of stunts today.
“Chris O'Hara and I have spent years bringing this moment to life, standing on the shoulders of stunt professionals who have fought for recognition for the past few decades. We are so grateful.”
Stunt Designer is a relatively new name. For his job Autumn guyO'Hara was the first to be praised.
“Being viewed by the film community as a stunt designer has the hope to bring more light to what we really do,” O'Hara told the Associated Press in 2024.
“In the past, the guys who performed stunts were cowboys. Now we are very creative. We create amazing things like a production designer or a costume designer.”
Oscar pays tribute to the stunt community with video montage at the 2024 ceremony, reviewing Chaplin and Keaton’s 100-year Hollywood stunts Mission: Impossible and matrix.
Other award shows also lead the way in celebrating stunts: Emmy Awards recognize stunt coordination and stunts, while the Screen Actors Association Award recognizes stunts in TV and movies.

The Oscars also recently added the Cast Achievement Award, starting with the 2025 release of the film. Like the Actor Awards, it is not clear whether it will be added to the live Oscar broadcast.
Chad Stahelski co-directed John Wick And doing stunts for Keanu Reeves, told the Associated Press Thursday that there is still work to be done.
“The idea of awarding the Oscar-to-Stat Design Award is great – don't get me wrong,” he said.
“Now, I wonder who will decide who gets it and who really wins the award? It's not like when someone was designing it 100 years ago. It's a collaborative effort.”
Stahelski added: “The stunt is such a collaborative and complex department, how will we determine who this is? It took us 100 years to win the award and let us make sure it is handed over to the right people.”
