The San Francisco Park Naming Competition is fun
A plan asked the public to name parks created from the freeway partial closures backfire and raised the issue of including “This is stupid. Let’s not do that” and “really stupid parks.”
According to KRON4, nearly 4,300 entries have been submitted to the “Grand Park Naming Competition” of San Francisco Entertainment and Parks, after the two-mile long road was permanently closed to create it.
With the park project gaining 54% support in the public vote, many people use naming competitions to vent their frustration.
Opponents say park rangers have surpassed the authority of the state and should not decide how to use the road. They also said the plans did not address environmental issues.
Meanwhile, supporters say traffic will be moved to underutilized nearby roads, and space frees up leisure.
District 4 director Joel Engardio played an important role in the Proposition K Park, which will officially open on April 12.
“Many of them told me that their objections to the vote were not heard,” Engdio said. “I put this feedback in my heart because it’s important to me that everyone hears it.”
Now, the frustration of citizens has spread to the submitted name list.
