Trump suggests that Chinese owners in Tiktok may have more sales time – Country

President Donald Trump suggested on Tuesday that he might strip the deadline of the popular video sharing app for Tiktok's Chinese owners.

In early April, Trump signed an order to allow Tiktok to run for another 75 days after a potential deal that could be sold to U.S. owners.

“Probably yes, yes,” he replied when the Air Force first asked him if he would extend the deadline again.

“Maybe it has to be recognized by China, but I think we will get it. I think President Xi Jinping will eventually approve it.”

He noted in an interview with NBC last month that he would be willing to postpone the deadline again. If announced, this will be the third time Trump has extended the deadline.

The story continues with the following ad

The first was the passage of an executive order, January 20, his first day in the office, when the platform briefly turned black after the injunction approved by Congress (and maintained by the U.S. Supreme Court).

The second was in April, when White House officials believed they were reaching a deal to split Tiktok into a new company, which collapsed after Trump's tariffs were announced.

It is unclear how many times Trump can or will continue to expand the ban as the administration continues to try to negotiate a deal with China's Tiktok.

Trump has accumulated over 15 million followers on Tiktok since joining last year, praising the trend’s platform to help him attract young voters. He said in January that he had a “warm spot in Tiktok”.
