Trump's historic Iran – After Israel's truce, does the ceasefire really bring peace?

President Donald Trump reached a historic ceasefire agreement between Israel and Iran on Monday, marking a sharp pause in the most significant military confrontation between the two enemies.

The announcement Monday night was launched 12 hours later, and it was then intended to allow final military exercises on both sides. However, in the following hours, the Iranian missile fire caused many Israeli questions.

The implementation of such delays is not uncommon, said John Spencer, executive director of Urban Warfare Institute, in an interview with Fox News Digital. He explained: “It's hard to turn things off on the switch. You have planes.

Spencer describes American actions as historic.

“Historically, the United States has carried out limited action on the zero-loss nuclear target, no pilots, no equipment — and somehow helped Israel. Nuclear proliferation is nonpartisan, and it is a political victory.” Even after Iran attacked a U.S. base in Qatar, he added: “The president showed huge restrictions and has been focusing on the broader goal: preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and continuing the terrorist campaign.”

Despite the announcement of violence, including four civilians killed in Israel on Iran's strike, Spencer believes the ceasefire will take place. “Both countries now say we will definitely do that,” he said. “Yes, President Trump is very atypical in how he communicates with the ceasefire… and 'Don't throw a bomb'.”

To understand how this ceasefire unfolds, Spencer points to five historical precedents marked by the final window of delayed activation, phased goals and military positioning.

The Korean War Armistice (1953)

The armistice that ended the Korean War was signed on July 27, 1953 was deliberately delayed structured before it came into effect. “This allows for the final military movement before the synchronization stops,” Spencer said.

Spencer noted that in 1973, Israel used the last few hours to reposition its power before an unpropaganda ceasefire. “Israel has taken a series of actions over the past few hours… including surrounding the Third Army and moving to Suez City,” he said.

Ending the Bosnian War, the American broker’s Dayton Peace Agreement established a phased schedule for withdrawals and political agreements. “That's a multiple nation of the United Nations, signing the consistency that both sides will and will not do,” Spencer explained.

Spencer is also similar to the 2014 Gaza War. “Hamas will say, 'Well, we want a ceasefire … until next time they break the ceasefire.' Many of these agreements have a 12 to 72-hour activation delay, similar to what Iran sees now.

Ukraine – Russia's ceasefire proposal

Recently, in the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war, a ceasefire is often brief and symbolic. Spencer said: “Putin said, 'I want three days so I can do the parade.'

Although past ceasefires were intended to slow escalation, Spencer saw it as part of a broader strategic doctrine. “In a way that only the United States can help Israel, it should be nonpartisan,” he said. “Let the United States take very limited actions without losing American life alone…it’s unique.”

Spencer described the ceasefire as an “outer ramp” for both sides. “The ceasefire here means both sides will stop shooting at each other. That doesn't mean Iran will stop shouting 'Death to the United States and death to Israel',” he said. “But the operation and hostilities have stopped.”

Despite the lack of formal terms or international law enforcement, Spencer believes the agreement creates new precedents. “This establishes a new doctrine,” he said, citing Israel's ability in the Iranian sky and the U.S. response to the threat of nuclear proliferation. “If Iran decides to rebuild certain sites somewhere, then the threat will be more than ever.”

“It's a win. When the red lines are really red lines, they are effective in deterrence.”
