The United Nations Bureau said Friday that 15 aid trucks from the World Food Programme (WFP) in the southern Gaza Strip have been robbed.

The robbery occurred Thursday night when the transporter was heading to the bakery supported by the program.

The agency did not provide details about who stole the delivery, and Israel has not commented on the incident.

“Hunger, despair and anxiety about whether there is more food aid is leading to the rise of insecurity,” the WFP statement said.

“We need the support of Israeli authorities to transport faster, more stable, along safer routes to provide more food aid to Gaza faster and more stably, just like during a ceasefire.”

Some bakeries in Deir Al-Balah in the center of the Gaza Strip and in the southern part of Khan Younis have recently resumed baked bread. However, aid workers warn that the assistance provided is far from enough.

According to WFP, no immediate measures were taken, and about 2 million people were facing extreme hunger and famine.

Israel imposed a nearly three-month lockdown on humanitarian aid early this week. The country accused the Palestinian militant group Hamas of stealing aid and selling it at a high price to fund its fighters and weapons.
