US fires Greenland military base to challenge JD Vance's remarks – Country

An official stationed in Greenland, a U.S. military base station in Greenland, was allegedly abandoned a comment denouncing Vice President JD Vance about Denmark's handling of the Big Island nation.

In a statement Thursday, the U.S. military's Space Operations Command said Colonel Susannah Meyers, the commander of Pituffik Space Base, was “dismissed” Thursday because of “losing confidence in her leadership.”

It continued: “Commanders are expected to adhere to the highest standards of conduct, especially in cases where nonpartisan relations are concerned with the performance of their duties.”

Vance argued that Denmark “does not do well” for Greenland, saying it failed to spend enough security during a period of high disputes over the autonomous Denmark region.

Meyers reportedly sent an email to Pituffik staff saying Vance's comments “do not reflect” the base.

Meyers said she told staff she had been reflecting on the Trump administration’s visit on March 28 and wrote on March 31 that she “reflected on the weekends on Friday’s visit – the actions taken, the words spoken and how it must affect each of you.”

“I don't think I know the current politics, but what I know is that the concerns of the U.S. government discussed by Vice President Vance on Friday do not reflect the Pituffak space base.”

Martile.com said a source familiar with the email said it had sent it to all base personnel, including Denmark and Greenland to send staff on site, adding that the letter had been confirmed as legal by the U.S. Space Force.

Pentagon chief spokesman Sean Parnell shared a screenshot of Meyers’ sack announcement in a post on Thursday, along with comments: “Actions that undermine the chain of command or subvert President Trump’s agenda will not tolerate the Department of Defense.”

Space Command said in a statement announcing Meyers' dismissal that she will be replaced by Colonel Sean Lee.


Meyers held her former position at U.S. military base last July. Before taking over Meyers' role, Lee was the squadron commander at the Alaska Transparent Space Force Station.

At a press conference, Frederiksen spoke directly to Trump, saying: “You can't annex other countries” and added that Denmark is increasing its military presence in the Arctic and proposes to increase its cooperation in defending the region.
