Survey of ranch in northern Mexico reveals some details of Operation Jalisco Cartel

Mexico City (AP) – Reinvestigation of the western Mexican ranch, authorities say the new generation of Mexico County cartel trained recruits introduced some details about how the country's most powerful drug cartels work.

Cartel said that after the 2010 killing of the Sinaloa Cartel Capo Ignacio, the Sinaloa Cartel Capo Ignacio coronary artery, after it broke up with Sinaloa Cartel, the Cartel's team had about 19,000 people, rapidly growing into an extremely violent and capable force.

The Jalisco Cartel is led by Nemesio Rubén “El Mencho” Oseguera Cervantes, and the U.S. government has given it a $15 million reward for information that led to his arrest. Oseguera caught the attention this week after his image was predicted to be a band performing at the festival in Jalisco.

Jalisco and Sinaloa Cartels have fought to control all over Mexico, including the southern border between Mexico and Guatemala. Both are one of six Mexican organized criminal organizations recently designated by the U.S. government as foreign terrorist organizations.

One of the recent advances by authorities against Jalisco State was the arrest of José Gregorio Lastra, who was allegedly responsible for the recruitment of the cartel.

How is the recruits of Jalisco Cartel

The Jalisco cartels have adopted three recruitment methods: attracting volunteers by pay and imagined lifestyles, experts say, which is the majority of their number; targeted recruitment of former military and police forces as their professional training enters the cartel, with trainers and leaders of the Gunners squad entering the cartel. Finally, investigators say a forced recruitment occurred, which happened at Jalisco Ranch.

For the last category, authorities said the cartels use social platforms (which they have identified at least 60 pages) to provide fake job opportunities, especially as security guards, with a weekly salary of $600, which is much higher than the average for such positions. Once there are applicants, they will force them to join the cartel.

A recruit who survived the ranch reportedly said the cartel received the recruits at the bus stop with a false excuse and took them to the ranch, where they received a month of training and used weapons in addition to fitness training. Those who refuse or try to escape are beaten, tortured and killed.

The structure of the cartel

Safety analyst David Saucedo said Jalisco's structure is vertical and the top of Oseguera is vertical.

Photos of Oseguera were expected last weekend when the band began playing at the regional music festival in Jalisco. Some in the crowd cheered, and President Claudia Sheinbaum and the governor of Jalisco condemned the bill on Monday. The Jalisco State Attorney's Office said it is opening up investigations. This kind of respect for the cartel leader is not uncommon.

Sasdo said below Oseguera is the regional command, as well as the area responsible for drug production and sales.

The DEA said the cartels have 21 out of Mexico's 32 states, surpassing the 19 states of Sinaloa Cartel. Some analysts believe that Jalisco is actually in as many as 25 states, including its eponymous state. According to the DEA, it also maintains its presence in about 100 countries.

How to expand the cartel

In less than two decades, Jalisco became one of Mexico's most powerful criminal organizations, and even managed to control some of the traditional strongholds of the Sinaloa Cartel. Sinaloa has recently been undercut by infighting in his faction, including Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, who served his sentence in the United States, Ismar “El Mayo” Zambada, who was arrested in one of our trials last July with Guzmán’s son.

The Center for Research and Advanced Research by Carlos Flores, a researcher at social anthropology researcher, said Jalisco's style of “violent action” and “irregular war” contributed to its rapid rise, which coincided with the emergence of fentanyl.

Jalisco has also successfully formed alliances with other criminal groups, allowing it to penetrate certain territories in a “franchise” model, Sasdo said.

Contact authorities and security forces

Flores said the case of the ranch was also an example of how the Harry cartel had impunity action within its territory controlled by the accomplice of the local authorities.

Despite being found in September 2024 and 10 arrests, the ranch investigations stalled until the family searching for relatives went there on their own in March and caused alarms about the hundreds of clothes they found, as well as obvious fragments of bones. Since then, authorities have detained three local police officers, allegedly related to the disappearance of the ranch.

“There are some signs of how these deals have enabled the Jalisco cartels to build their own in some states, while they go to eliminate the situation of competitors, sometimes with the help of public safety forces,” Flores said.
