Wayne Gretzky's reaction to Alex Ovechkin binds his goal record

Wayne Gretzky started following Alex Ovechkin on Friday night as his trek surpassed the NHL's all-time leading shooter, the trip was completed almost in a day.

Ovechkin needed three goals to surpass Gretzky, scoring twice and trying his best hat-trick.

Nevertheless, Gretzky has been the solo leader for more than 31 years. But now that he has company, soon, he will look up for the first time in a while.

But Gretzky wasn't just peaceful, but his record was tied together and soon fell.

“It's OK…that's what the game is all about,” Gretzky said to Ovichkin tied the Memorial Sports Network.

“Alex is very suitable for the game, and it's very suitable for Washington's home country. It's great. I'm proud of him, I'm proud of my achievements, and that's what makes our game so good, the great athletes we have and, more importantly, they're their good guys.”

Alex Ovechkin Odds: When did he break Wayne Gretzky's scoring record?

Gretzky made his all-time NHL goal score on March 23, 1994, when he surpassed Gordie Howe with his 802nd professional goal. He scored another 92 points before hanging cleats in 1999, bringing his total to 894.

Ovechkin's lights against the Chicago Blackhawks were illuminated by lights of lights just four minutes in the game. Then, five minutes away from the third stage, the capital played a strong game, and Ovechkin took advantage of it, passed goalkeeper Spencer Knight and screamed.

Ovechkin's next record chance will face the Islanders in New York on Sunday, with the hockey dropping at 12:30 p.m. ET.
