Weekend storm triggers debris traffic, Malibu's PCH reopens in Malibu

Caltrans announced that part of the Malibu Pacific Coast Expressway was closed over the weekend due to debris flow.

Part of the scenic coastal highway closed Saturday afternoon in Topanga Canyon Boulevard, Tuna Canyon Road and Big Rock Drive in late April showers. The agency said in a social media post on X that by 4:30 pm, Road Crews made significant progress, but there was still too much mud on Tuna Canyon Road to clean. ”

PCH reopened Monday morning with soft closure restrictions only to residents with burn scar passes, contractors, emergency personnel, and designated subways and school buses.

Rose Schoenfeld, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Oxnard, said that storms across the South swept about a quarter of an inch of rain last weekend, but Rose Schoenfeld, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, said that the amount of rainfall to the Palisades fire burning area reached half an inch.

“It's definitely a bit of a bit to get a system like this,” Schoenfeld said. “Every year at this time of the month, you can attract some late-stage systems that are raining.”

By the end of May, Caltrans said it expected to reopen a coastal highway from Chautauqua Boulevard in Pacific Palisades to Carbon Beach Terrace in Malibu to normal traffic.
