When the governor lashes out at progressive policies

While seven escaped prisoners, including two murder suspects, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry tore up the parish’s progressive soft crime policy, which he claimed helped escape after a dramatic escape from New Orleans prison early Friday morning.
“The irony of the city's promise of progress is clear. New Orleans handed over the prison keys to those who vowed to keep criminals out of prison, and sadly, today we see this action,” Landry said in a press conference Sunday night. “I hope everyone knows that the videos of those escaped prisoners embody a progressive criminal justice system.”

In a press conference, Landry announced an executive order to review the Orleans Correctional Institution by the State Department of Corrections (DOC) and remove all DOC inmates from the local prison. He issued another order directing the state inspector general to work with the Orleans Parish Sheriff to stock all prison inmates awaiting trial and those awaiting judgment.
Ten inmates escaped the Orleans Parish Correctional Institution Friday night, which was captured by surveillance videos of the prison. Authorities say they crawled over the storage that was hidden behind the toilet.
The inmate then reportedly zoomed, then jumped onto the prison's barbed wire fence, crossed the highway and entered nearby, and then changed clothes.
They left messages, including “Easy to Laugh” and “We Are Innocent”, approaching the holes they escaped.

Authorities believe the escapee was helpful when someone inside the prison was watching the pods “walk away” for food, missed the escape.
The seven fugitives who are still running are Jermaine Donald, 42; Antoine Massey, 33; Leo, 31; Lenton Vanburen, 27; Derrick Groves, 27; Gary Price, 21; and Corey Boyd, 19.
Both Donald and Boyd face second-degree murder.
